3 dekad 3 tahun

Rebutlah lima perkara sebelum datangnya lima perkara.

  1. Masa sihat sebelum sakit
  2. Masa kaya sebelum datangnya masa sempit (miskin)
  3. Masa lapang sebelum tiba masa sibuk
  4. Masa muda sebelum datang masa tua, dan
  5. Masa hidup sebelum tiba masa mati.

InsyaAllah.

Being promoted… Syukur Alhamdulillah

As of 1st July 2012, I am now serving the Digital Library of Open University Malaysia as Senior Librarian (In Government Service is equivalent to S44). Syukur Alhamdulillah. Rezki from Him for my lovely wife and kids.

Being a Librarian for nearly 8 years; working enthusiastically and actively looking for ways to improve the library services to the best of my ability. If you love your job… well you will be rewarded in time. The rezki from Him will come… surely.

The 1st task I did when starting to work at Tan Sri Dr. Abdullah Sanusi Digital Library, if I am not mistaken is redesigning the Library Catalogue. Luckily I am well versed with Virtua VTLS Library System (thanks to En Azhar Md. Noor of Perdana Leadership Foundation. Hint: Tun Dr. Mahathir). Giving new look to OUM Digital Library was a piece of cake. Almost anyone could do it. It was purely HTML and CSS. No programming involved.

After sometimes, I came to realize that there was a need for student authentication. At first it was a simple PHP login script, exploiting exposed variables (not secure and dirty, but hey. It worked Okay!)

A year later I came across Drupal. Something like Joomla but much more powerful and robust. Drupal has a high learning curve. It is built on security and usability comes later. Hmmmm! Challenge accepted. Within 3 months a new Library Portal based on Drupal was introduced, somewhere in January 2010.

By now Drupal in the Library is being used as:

  • Authentication System
  • Error Reporting
  • Enquiries System
  • Document Delivery, InterLibrary and IntraLibrary Loan Request
  • Remote Access via EZproxy
  • Library Database Management System
  • Library Catalogue Replacement

I learnt Drupal by trial and error and with help from Drupal Communities, Drupal Books and some code snippets.

Ahhhh. I could still remember the day I was trying to write my 1st custom module. Nothing worked and I almost gave up. Luckily Drupal has good API documentation and I was able to write a module to programmatically add user into the system and log them in. It was a breakthrough. Nothing is impossible if you put your heart into it.

Still learning Drupal and is aiming to become a Drupal Ninja

Looks are deceiving

Looks are very deceiving… don’t be fooled. With knowledge you will prosper

This is an earwig. Looks dangerous but it causes no harm to humans even babies.

[img_assist|nid=3587|title=|desc=|link=node|align=none|width=500|height=377]

Compare Earwig and Rove Beetle.

And this is Mr. Charlie (dikenali sebagai Semut Kayap)…

[img_assist|nid=3589|title=|desc=|link=node|align=none|width=500|height=401]

This insect may cause Dermatits Linearis

[img_assist|nid=3590|title=|desc=|link=node|align=none|width=500|height=375]

Be very afraid. Be very very afraid.

Selama mana dia mahu tinggal dirumahku pun aku tak kisah. Tinggallah selagi mahu. Malangnya… tempoh ibuku tinggal bersamaku hanya dua hari. Sungguh singkat tetapi sangat bermakna.

[img_assist|nid=1458|title=|desc=|link=node|align=none|width=500|height=333]

->> More info here.

  • Melayu
  • Inggeris
  • Arab
  • German (bukan yg di New Kasel tuh!!)
  • Perancis
  • Yunani (Aristotle suka neh)

The Success Principles

Good Morning and Sejahtera Everyone

Today, I would like to share something with you. Sent to me via email this morning, the 10 ways to have a better day. Logically, if you start your day with smile, you will end your days with smile and vice-versa. Here goes the 10 ways to have a better day.

[img_assist|nid=1341|title=|desc=|link=node|align=none|width=301|height=400]

Number 1 : Wake up 30 Minutes Early.
Get up 30 minutes before the alarm goes off and take the first half hour for yourself. Once you get busy and into the day there never seems to be the time for yourself. Take this time to plan getting the most from the day.

Number 2 : Read, Listen, or Watch Something Uplifting.
Make this a daily habit. Get out of starting the day with good mental food. A great day does not begin with the news or the paper, it begins with ideas or energy that will propel you through the day. What you first hear will stay with you throughout the day.

Number 3: Eat a Good Breakfast to Start You Off Right.
Get something good into your body to wake it up and get it going. Think about the energy you will need to perform.  Everyday we run a marathon. What would you need to eat and drink to win it.

Number 4 : Choose Your Winning Attitude.
There is enough to go wrong without sabotaging yourself. Your attitude is a choice  you make. Don’t let it come between you and your success. Be careful to keep it positive all day long.

Number 5 : Be Aware of What They are Telling You.
The people around us have a profound effect on how we get through life. Our closest  friends and family are our greatest environmental influences. Make sure you have the best ( +ve ) advisors you can find.

Number 6 : Make the Most of What You Do.
When you get to your work, make it the best place to be. Most people go to work and never think about work while they are there. Focus on your contribution. What would it be like if you were not around. Strive to give a 100% each and every day.

Number 7 : Always Remember that People are Listening.
Make a point of talking well of others. Wish others the best in life. What goes around does come around. Don’t talk about anyone. Try to understand their circumstances Practice being a support system to your friends and family. They need you.

Number 8 : Be Honest and Fair to Others.
It does make a difference. What you give to others is usually what you get from others. Practice integrity that people can see and feel. Be aware of what you say. Learn to walk your talk at all times. The more people trust you, the more of their time they will trust with you.

Number 9 : Pace Your Energy to Last All Day.
Be careful of bursts of energy. Pace your energy throughout the day. If you get to crazy early in the day, you will reach a point of exhaustion before the day is over. By planning your entire day before you begin, you will have what you need. You’ve heard the old saying “look alive.”

Number 10 : Get in Bed Early and Study for the Future.
I have a friend who keeps a journal at his bedside. Every night he writes what he learned new on that day. The only way to keep one step above the masses is to learn new ways to do things. Develop the habit of reading a work or personal development book before you go to sleep. Reading for 30 minutes a day is like a year of college. You can’t succeed if you don’t read.
